We are looking to commission a piece of site specific artwork on the hoardings at the front of Torre Abbey Historic House & Gallery (torre-abbey.org.uk). The boards have been erected whilst a major restoration project takes place and will be in place until Summer 2013. We are looking to animate the space, build awareness of the restoration
and promote a temporary exhibition opening in the Spanish Barn in mid July. (The artwork can stay on site indefinitely or for as long as is possible but if past the closing date of the exhibition, we must be able to remove the element referring to this). We are looking for vibrant, contemporary and engaging artwork - the nature of which is open though it must relate to the site and surrounding area. It may be done by an individual, a
collective, the community or a combination of all of these. We are entirely open to ideas and only seek to provide the space and the opportunity for something innovative and exciting to happen.
The site: The hoarding's dimensions are approx: 2.4 x 50 metres. We are certainly not expecting you to use the entire space (unless you want to!), you are welcome to choose sections as appropriate. It is made of plastic and has signage fixed with screws intermittently along its length. The artwork commissioned would be fixed to the hoardings (fittings will
be provided) and must avoid covering the signage in place. Images of the site can be seen below.
